Advocating For Victims Of DUI Truck Accidents

There are few actions more irresponsible than putting yourself behind the wheel of an 80,000-pound tractor-trailer when you are under the influence of drugs or alcohol.

Department Of Transportation Drug Testing Rules

The Ohio Department of Transportation (DOT) requires drug and alcohol testing to be conducted for all commercial truck drivers. They include:

  • Pre-employment drug testing for truck drivers
  • Drug and alcohol testing following an accident that results in loss of life, traffic citation for an accident causing an injury requiring treatment, or citation resulting in the need for a rig to be towed
  • Random drug testing

Trucking companies can also request drug tests if they see signs that an employee is using drugs. A standard drug test screens for amphetamines, cocaine, marijuana, opiates and PCP. A saliva or blood test may be used for alcohol.

Unfortunately, whether under the nose of trucking companies or with their knowledge, abuse of drugs and alcohol by commercial truckers is common.
