Ohio pedestrian killed in car accident, investigation ongoing

On Behalf of | Jan 4, 2012 | Car Accidents |

Ohio residents from Columbus and across the state may be saddened to hear of the recent death of a Canal Winchester woman. The woman was killed in a fatal car accident involving a Chrysler sedan. At this time, no charges have been filed in connection with the accident, although an investigation is ongoing.

Tragically, the accident took place about a week before Christmas on Dec. 17 at about 11:30 p.m. According to the police, the 35-year-old woman had been crossing Gender Road between Abbie Trails Drive and Wright Road in Columbus when she was struck by a sedan driven by a 40-year-old man. The woman was taken by emergency responders to Grant Medical Center, where she was later pronounced dead.

As the woman’s family mourns their tragic loss, they may consider filing a wrongful death suit against the 40-year-old driver. Ohio readers are likely aware that a wrongful death claim refers to a type of death caused by the negligent or willful conduct of another. Although the law cannot erase the grief of losing a loved one, certain legal actions can be taken to help provide compensation, particularly for funeral expenses and any pain and suffering that may have resulted from the accident.

It is not yet clear if the 40-year-old driver is guilty of reckless or negligent behavior, but to help ascertain exactly what the situation of the accident was, the family may wish to retain legal counsel. An attorney can work to reconstruct the circumstances that most likely caused the fatal accident. An attorney may also be able to help with navigating the judicial system with an aim toward securing a favorable result.
