Fatal car accident on Ohio 18 kills 2, injures 1

Ohio 18 was closed in Lorain County for four hours after a two-car crash. A news release from the Ohio Highway Patrol detailed the accident that killed two men and injured one woman.

The 64-year-old male driver of a 2002 Pontiac Grand Prix was headed east when his vehicle veered left of center into oncoming eastbound traffic. He died as a result of hitting a 2005 Chrysler Town and Country on its side. Both vehicles spun away after impact. The van went off the north side of the road, and the car stopped in the middle of the road. The 49-year-old male driver of the van also died.

The highway patrol reported that the 59-year-old woman riding in the Grand Prix was badly injured. She was airlifted to Cleveland and admitted to MetroHealth Medical Center with critical injuries. All the people in the accident were wearing their seat belts. Authorities do not know if alcohol contributed to the crash.

Family members who survive victims of fatal accidents like this are sometimes able to receive compensation from a responsible party. If a negligent action like texting and driving or drinking caused a traffic accident, then the driver could be liable for damages like lost income and funeral costs. An attorney might be able to advise a survivor about types of compensation he or she might have a right to claim with a wrongful death lawsuit depending on the facts of the case. During this process, an attorney could aid the client in negotiations with an insurance company or even take a case to court.
