When you think about all the different types of nursing home abuse and neglect we discussed last week, you can see why it is so important for residents of nursing homes to have family members and friends who are keeping an eye on them. It is vital that you know some of the signs of nursing home abuse and neglect if you have a loved one in one of these facilities.

We know that thinking about your loved one being harmed by the people who are supposed to provide care isn’t something that is pleasant. Still, you should know some of the basic signs so that you can take action to make the abuse or neglect stop if it occurs.

One thing to look out for is the condition of your loved one. If your loved one seems unkempt, dehydrated or malnourished, those are signs that should put you on alert. If you notice bruising, red marks, bedsores or breakdowns in his or her skin, those are very serious signs that something is amiss.

Some of the signs of nursing home abuse and neglect aren’t so easy to spot. If your loved one seems to be depressed or withdrawn, you might have to consider nursing home abuse or neglect. In some cases, these are signs of psychological abuse.

No abuse or neglect is ever appropriate in the case of a person who is in a nursing home. We know that you don’t want to see your loved one suffering because of those issues. We can help you to learn your options for making the abuse or neglect stop, and we can help you to seek compensation if your loved one was injured.
